Hello again! Being a Utah Wedding Videographer, I would like to talk about why you should hire a makeup artist for your wedding. To help me with this, I reached out to my friend and favorite makeup artist, Makenzie Peacock with Peacock Artistry.
Makenzie and I met at Snow College. Wait…I lied. We met online and would always post weird videos to each other’s Facebook. Then, we found out we were both going to Snow College. I moved a day before she did. Once she had arrived she texted me and I went over to her apartment. We hung out a ton that semester. We’d walk to the local burger joint together, we’d go to school activities, we just always hung out, okay. Haha you get the point. I remember her loving makeup but at the time I had no idea the talented artist she would evolve into.
Honestly, I had no idea what to do with makeup. None. I’m a plain jane and you will most often finding me wearing mascara only. Even now that I know how to do makeup. On my wedding day, I had no idea what to do with makeup. I wore some but didn’t even know what bronzer was (where is my crying laughing emoji). I think what I thought was foundation was actually translucent powder. No lipstick either, I wore chapstick. FOR REAL, I was clueless. I didn’t even know that you could hire someone to do your makeup for you. I was a pretty naive 22 years old.
When I was getting started in videography, I quickly found out what a MUA (makeup artist) is and that my friend Kenzie was pursuing that. I hit her up for some help regarding makeup for an upcoming 2 year anniversary photo shoot of my husband and I. Kenzie was in the middle of her Makeup artist education at the time. I drove about 45 minutes to her house so that she could teach me some basics. After she explained all the many makeup products. We drove to Walmart and she gave me pointers on how to choose foundations, bronzers, foundations, powders, brushes, and so much more! If I only wear full makeup, every so often, it would have to be drugstore. To this day, I still appreciate the help she provided me. I may only do full makeup a few times year (trying to change that) but her help has given me lifelong results.
I asked Kenzie on why she feels hiring a MUA is important for your wedding day. She said that a makeup artist helps you look your best in pictures. I so agree with this. While I am plain jane mascara girl, I know that full makeup needs to be a priority for photos, and video! I’ve seen the benefit from my own self. Makeup in photos and video, just helps my face look more like my face. Of course, you also can have fun with a certain makeup look, however, for your wedding you probably want to make sure you look like yourself but just done up for a special occasion, like your wedding for instance!
Make sure when you choose a MUA that you love their portfolio. Instagram is often a great way to see the up to date work of a MUA you are interested in for your wedding. If I could do my wedding over (working in the wedding industry I think about it all the time) I would go back in time and hire Kenzie to step in and do my makeup.
Lastly, Kenzie says that the best way to get what you want with a makeup artist is to make sure you pick someone who matches the style you are going for and that you communicate with your MUA so they can best serve you!
